Mnichovice lies about 29 km south-east of central Prague and 8 km from Říčany. It has had town status since 2000. In 2025, it had 4,156 residents.

The first written mention of Mnichovice dates to 1134. The Prague–Benešov railway, opened in 1871, runs through the town. The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary on Masaryk Square was built in the folk Baroque style and consecrated in 1754. Zitt's Mill in Mnichovice is a timber-framed building built before 1600 and has been a cultural monument since 1996.
